Coming up in our next Feature Gallery Show is Alternative Firing!  Learn about the ancient to more modernized methods of Pit Fired, Raku Fired, and Soda Fired Pots at this fantastic pottery exhibit.  A variety of beautiful pottery produced by local potters using these techniques along with information on each method will be presented opening night Thursday October 20th from 5pm-7pm.  Be inspired and select some pieces for your own collection.

 

Pit Fired Pots are the oldest known method of firing pottery and pieces found have been dated as early as 29,000 BCE.  These low fired pots are known as earthenware.  Raku is a Japanese style of pottery first made in 1580s and utilizes an oxygen reduction environment for dramatic results.  Soda Fired Pots uses an atmospheric firing technique were soda and salt firing is introduced to the kiln.

 

Find out more about all these unique methods, meet the potters and enjoy this spectacular evening out.  Items can be purchased and taken home right away.

 

After opening night, the Alternative Firing exhibit will continue to be displayed till November 26th at Studio 2880, 2880 15th Ave, Prince George, BC.
