Artists in the Schools
Artists in the Schools is a project developed by the Studio 2880 Arts Center to complement existing arts programming within the school system.
The Studio 2880 Arts Center works in conjunction with School District No. 57 and is free to the participating schools. These workshops have been made possible through grants offered by the Studio 2880 Arts Center.
Our project is designed to provide artists in residence at our local schools. We believe that a child given the opportunity to explore and be exposed to different facets of the arts will develop an understanding and appreciation of the arts throughout their life.
The arts is a diverse subject, so we offer many different sets of workshops. Each workshop is designed to enhance and complement existing visual and performing arts curricula. Timelines may be adjusted to suit both Artist and School.
Who Are The Artists?
A call for project proposals will be sent out to interested members, individual artists and arts groups of the Studio 2880 Arts Center. For 2011, Artists in the Schools will sponsor four Artists to teach in the schools. Each artist will receive and honorarium of $100 per school, with the projects being completed by May 1st.
2011 Participating Artists were:
Leanna Carlson, PG Potters Guild: Clay and Nail Animals or Small Faces
Andrea Shauer: Colour Wheel Pizzas or Cardboard Robots
Carol Skulmoski: Paper Quilling, Papier Macher or Macrame Key Rings
Ron Clemmons: Woodturning
